After our win on Saturday against Rochester, we were sent back to the gloom of Rink 1 for the "consolation championship." Like the team that loses the championship, the winner of this game will have 2 wins and 1 loss for the tournament and so ties for second place.
Our bad luck at the beginning of the tournament must have been due to the date, and not the venue. Despite the dark and foreboding atmosphere, the Spartans won handily in a game that didn't seem close. Keep in mind this was against a team that beat us less than a week before. Where was the redoubtable number 20 when they needed him? He was on the ice, but much less effective than previously.
Here's a photo of Rink 1 at the Richfield arena for all the readers who don't believe how dark it really feels. Note the widely spaced and odd looking light fixtures. Must have been designed in the groovy 1960s or the cash-strapped 1970s. The ice only looks bright because this photo is exposed for the bleachers.
Despite the conditions, it's still possible to take a good photo. Here's Henri in position in front of the net, keeping at least two opponents busy.
Henri really doesn't like it when an opposing defender tries to interfere with a teammate's shot. In this case it's Jacob who makes the attempt.
Max B. waits calmly for the faceoff...
...but goes all out when it's needed.
